Natural Edged Oak Breakfast Bar

Image
This is a natural edged (sometimes called "live edged" or "wayney edged") European oak worktop which we planed and oiled and was then incorporated into this wonderful kitchen.
I am finally writing to thank you for an amazing service regarding our recent worktop order. Being married to a carpenter means that wood is a very important thing in our house. Over time I have come to realise what my husband says is right & that you cannot beat the look & feel of real wood.  We had always wanted solid oak worktops when the time came to replace our existing kitchen. However neither my husband or I were keen on the small stave worktops so decided to hunt down someone who manufactured the full stave ones. My husband made phone call after phone call & to be honest nobody seemed to be able to answer our questions on their products & couldn't guarantee us a time frame or that it would be English or European oak. We had almost given up hope & then we found you guys   We cannot fault your service at all. You were able to answer all my husbands questions so we were confident that you knew what you were doing & you also offered a great time frame
The wood you recently supplied was excellent in every way.  The pieces were extremely well padded in bubble wrap and delivered on time. The colour and grain of the oak were exactly right and the planed dimensions were 100% accurate.  The timber was required for a furniture repair.  I had only worked with softwoods before, and I had concerns that I might have trouble handling the hardness of oak.  As it turned out I need not have worried, and it proved to be a pleasure to work with.   Thank you. Richard
worktops are here safe and sound (they were very well packed) and they are beautiful!  Exactly as hoped for. Great service at a very reasonable price. The website was easy to navigate and having an instant quote was ideal. Thanks Sally p.s. I'm about to order another couple of shelves and some oil.
Brilliant service, goods, delivery and very happy with everything. Liam
I can give you feed back to your questions as follows: The wood was as I expected. Generally the wood colour and grain was as I expected. However, we are always interested in unusual grain to use in our Band Saw Boxes. The quirkier the better. Planed and and machined satisfactorily. Delivery was well wrapped, little chance of damaged. 'So well wrapped it took me half an hour to unwrap!' Absolutely no complaints. Website is very good, ordering is easy. No suggestions for improvement, unless you can open a shop nearer to Hertfordshire! Mike
Many thanks for the delivery of Ash which arrived before 11am yesterday. It was well packed and protected and the finish was excellent.  The grain and colour was as expected. I am in the process of making a sideboard / dresser in the modern style which will be painted. The work surface and shelves will be ash.  There will be drawers instead of cupboards and the whole unit will be mounted on casters for ease of movement. Mike
The timber arrived this morning beautifully packed and in good condition. The courier was helpful and the timber looks great and I'm ready to start my project. There were no problems in regard to potential warping, the boards arrived flat. Thank you for your excellent service. Ken
Just to say thank you for your prompt attention to my order and the friendly telephone call to confirm. I received the parcel, very well wrapped and delivered at my side gate as arranged. As a beginner, I am enjoying looking at the various pieces and thinking how to work with them, a pleasure in itself, and look forward to trying my hand in the New Year. Your site is very interesting, friendly and informative. I particularly liked the tour of the farm and pictures of your products etc. I've lots to be going on with but hope to keep in touch with your website as it progresses. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Derek

Steering Wheel for an MG

Image
Hello, Some months ago you supplied me with two lengths of American black walnut which I have used to make a wooden steering wheel rim for my 1974 MGB. These photos show some stages in the construction. As you  can see the first step was to make two hexagons and then to machine them into circles using a router. I made a jig for the router which allowed it to turn and also to be lifted on and off the work. The wheel was made by making two identical circles between which the metal rim of the wheel was sandwiched, having cut a slot in each half for this in advance. ( I bought a second hand wheel on eBay for this project and stripped off the original rubber and plastic rim). The trickiest bit was to machine the 'shoulders' which shroud the ends of the spokes. As you know one slip with a router and hours of work can be ruined. The finger grooves at the back of the wheel were also done with the router, this time adapted to run in and out from the centre to the rim.

Lee from MadPups Guitars sent us these photos of an electric guitar he's made from our wenge and sapele . More of Lees work can be found on his Facebook page here - "It sounded fantastic and looked amazing. I'd just like to thank you for the help you provided over the phone and the great timber you supplied." Good work Lee! We can supply hardwoods for musical instruments and can provide a book-matching service too for electric guitar tops- please feel free to get in touch.

Solid European Ash Table

Image
Solid European ash table The table is made of solid ash and is based on a Shaker design with some additional features. The top has two sides that drop down and the table legs swivel. When fully open the top surface measures approximately 72" x 38" when 1 side is up 72" x 25" and when both side down and legs turned it measures  approximately 15" so can be moved against a wall out of the way. The table is also on casters to make moving easier.
